Karen Culp, LPC Intern
“The wound is the place where the light enters you.”
Rumi
Emotional pain can feel like it has stolen your light, leaving you anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply exhausted from trying to hold everything together. But what if that pain was also the entry point for healing, insight, and transformation?
Welcome, my name is Karen Culp, and I’m honored to offer therapy at New Point of View Counseling in the Ahwatukee Foothills, a place I’ve called home since 1994. As a therapist (intern) with deep roots in this community, my work is grounded in compassion, connection, and clinical approaches that honor the complexity of the human experience.
I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are ready to explore healing through evidence-based, cognitive, attachment and trauma-informed modalities. I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for those carrying the weight of trauma (physical, emotional, sexual), that have left painful memories, disrupted relationships, poor boundaries, people pleasing behaviors, grief, depression or anxiety that won’t seem to let go. In addition, I am certified to provide DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) for clients navigating intense emotions, struggling to manage distressing thoughts, feelings and behaviors; have unhealthy relational patterns/ conflict; or feeling like they’re on an emotional rollercoaster. Developing and practicing DBT skills helps clients to build emotional resilience, improve communication and ability to get what you want from others while reducing distress.
We often, unknowingly, take our family of origin issues into our romantic relationships, placing us on a collision course when our unhealed parts show up with each other. In working with couples, I offer EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) to address these attachment wounds and create secure bonds. This helps couples reduce their dysfunctional communication patterns and perpetual conflicts allowing them to navigate their way back to deeper sexual and emotional connection, trust, and emotional safety.
You may be here because something in your life feels off. Maybe you're tired of repeating the same patterns, holding in the pain, or trying to do it all alone. Maybe you're longing for connection, clarity, or a sense of purpose again. My role is to walk with you with empathy, insight, and curiosity as we explore what’s been holding you back and what might help you move forward.
Healing doesn’t mean forgetting your pain. It means learning how to integrate it in a way that no longer controls your life. Whether you’re facing trauma, grief, anxiety, relationship strain, or simply a season of transition, therapy can be a place to come home to yourself.
“Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakes.”
Carl Jung
I believe that healing starts within and it’s never too late to awaken to the life you were meant to live.
Outside of therapy, I find joy in teaching spin classes, hiking with friends, and sailing with my husband. I'm also a mom, a beach lover, and a lifelong learner who believes in the power of growth and connection.
It would be my privilege to support you on your journey toward healing, self-discovery, and wholehearted living.
