"Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."
Maya Angelou
Hello, my name is Shāna and I am a therapist with New Point of View Counseling, located in the Ahwatukee Foothills. I am licensed to provide counseling by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. I attended Arizona State University and received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University, Phoenix.
Relationships and life in general can be stressful, frustrating and disappointing. We are often taught to work more, give everything, be more, try harder and keep going at all costs. But for many of us, this becomes a never-ending cycle of exhaustion that can lead to anxiety and depression. My goal is to provide you with a safe, collaborative, and non-judgmental environment in order to help you develop the confidence to get what you want out of your life.
I am passionate about self-care and I believe caring for your mental health should be given the same attention as caring for your physical health. I believe it is important to meet you where you are at and build a foundation from there. You are the expert of you and your life and my job as your counselor is to follow you on your journey and teach you coping skills so you can have the tools to better manage your daily stressors. I want to help you build on the strengths you already have and add more tools to your toolbox. By exploring your thoughts, feelings, and habits together, we can work to reduce any suffering you may be experiencing.
I offer a compassionate and client-centered approach to help you gain self-control, address unwanted negative thoughts and stop emotional overreacting. I have completed basic training in EMDR to address trauma, anxiety and negative believes that might be interfering with your ability to function as you want in your life. In addition, I am trained in Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Strength Based approaches.
I have experience working with diverse cultures, SMI and general mental health populations. I have worked with individuals with anxiety, depression, phobias, borderline personality disorder, sleep issues, stress, bipolar disorder, chronic health issues, grief and loss, trauma, and relationship problems.
Please feel free to call or email in order to help determine if I may be the right fit for your therapeutic needs.
