Kathryn Arroyo, LPC Intern
“You don’t have to have everything figured out to start moving forward.”
Hi, my name is Katy, and I am a counseling intern at NewPoint of View Counseling. I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Counseling at Arizona State University and provide counseling services under clinical supervision.
I know that reaching out for therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you are used to handling things on your own or aren’t quite sure where to begin. My goal is to create a space where you can show up as you are without feeling like you need to have the right words or all the answers.
I enjoy working with adults who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, self-esteem struggles, or simply feeling overwhelmed or stuck. I am especially interested in helping clients better understand how past experiences can continue to influence the way they think, feel, respond, and connect with others in the present.
My approach to counseling is collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. I primarily draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and person-centered approaches while incorporating other techniques based on each client's individual needs. I am currently in training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am able to incorporate EMDR into therapy when it is appropriate for a client's needs and treatment goals. Together, we may work on recognizing patterns, challenging unhelpful thoughts, processing difficult experiences, understanding emotions, developing healthier coping skills, setting boundaries, and building greater confidence in navigating difficult situations.
I believe the relationship between the client and counselor is one of the most important parts of therapy. You can expect me to be warm, genuine, supportive, and engaged while also being willing to gently challenge you when it may help you grow. Therapy does not have to feel overly clinical or intimidating. Sometimes it begins with simply having a place to talk openly and understand yourself a little better.
Our first session is an opportunity for me to get to know you, learn more about what has been going on, and understand what you hope might be different in your life. We will work together to determine what feels most important to focus on and what kind of support would be most helpful for you.
I believe meaningful change often happens through small steps, increased awareness, and learning to respond to yourself with greater patience and compassion. Wherever you start from, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you work toward the life and relationships you want.
